Suzanne Voorrips national champion 800 meters

Suzanne Voorrips wins the 800 meter in the Dutch Athletics Championships 2020.

In august 2020, physician-scientist Suzanne Voorrips became the national champion 800 meters during the Dutch Athletics Championships in Utrecht. Due to challenging weather conditions, the final of the 800 meters became a tactical race. Taking over the lead in the last 100 meters, Suzanne was the first to cross the finish line in 2.04.58. After winning the national title of the 800 meters indoor twice before, this is her first national outdoor title.

Suzanne: “My shape in training was better than ever, however the competition this year was fierce! I knew that choosing the right tactics would be vital to win. In this race it all came together! It is amazing to win and the feeling is indescribable.”

Suzanne works as physician-scientist in the cardiology department since the spring of 2020, where she works on the Ketone-HF project. While not on track, she tests the effects of ketone bodies on exercise performance in patients with heart failure. The flexibility offered by the physician-scientist program allows her to combine cutting edge science with top level athletics.
