Niels Grote Beverborg

Niels Grote Beverborg received his Bachelor of Science in Medicine cum laude and with honours of the Junior Scientific Masterclass in 2013. Subsequently, he combined his Masters in Medicine with a PhD in cardiology under the supervision of dr. Peter van der Meer. Niels defended his thesis entitled “Anemia, erythropoietin and iron in heart failure” on the 7th of January, 2019 and is currently seconded as a post-doctoral researcher in the lab of Prof. Kenneth Chien at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden. His current research focuses on new treatments for hereditary and acquired cardiomyopathy.

Current activities

Niels’ continued studying iron deficiency using “-omics” data in large patient datasets combined with mechanistic studies in in vitro models. Additionally, together with the Karolinska Institutet and large pharmaceutical companies, Niels is developing antisense oligonucleotides as a treatment modality for genetic cardiomyopathy, specifically caused by the PLN-R14del mutation.
