Navin Suthahar

Alumnus

Dr. Navin Suthahar completed his medical degree (MD) in 2008, and holds a postgraduate diploma (PgDip) in Cardiology, as well as a masters (MSc) in Preventive Cardiology. He completed his doctoral thesis entitled “Novel Aspects of Heart Failure Biomarkers,” under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Rudolf A de Boer, and received his PhD in Medical Sciences (Cardiology).

He currently works as a physician scientist at the department of Cardiology, Groningen, the Netherlands. His current research focuses on secreted factors in obesity, and their contribution to cardiovascular disease and cancer development.
Using large metabolomics data from the PREVEND population-based cohort, Dr. Suthahar aims to identify novel factors associated with obesity, cardiovascular disease and cancer.

Given that fat mass and distribution substantially differ in men and in women, Dr. Suthahar will specifically examine if the metabolic signature of human obesity, as well as their associations with clinical outcomes are different in men and in women.
